How to Start a Duct Tape Wallet Business - Producing a Wallet Pattern

Anyone contemplating producing more than one duct tape wallet should make their own pattern and in this article I am going to show you how easy it is to do so.

These are the ingredients we will need:
9 x 12 heavy (1/8" thick) plastic three ring binder. We will be using one of the plastic covers as material for our template. You should be able to find these binders at office supply stores or perhaps even discount stores. As long as the plastic is thick, that is all that matters. tin snips Box Cutter or blade 12 " Ruler Marker Med Grit Sandpaper

Step One - make a sheet of plastic

***Please be safe and wear gloves when cutting plastic as slivers and blade slips / breaks can cause serious cuts.

Binder and tin snips: Remove one of the plastic covers from the binder by cutting parallel to the spine. On a 9 inch wide binder you have only 1/2 inch leeway for width so cautiously remove the entire width of the cover if possible.

If the cover has a plastic pocket, it may be removed at this time using a box cutter or sharp blade.

Step Two - draw pattern

Plastic Cover, Ruler and Fine Marker: On the smoothest side of your plastic cover, measure out a rectangle 8 1/2 inches wide by 9 inches high. Next, draw two lines across the width (8 1/2 " side) at the 3 " and 6 " points of the rectangle.

You should now have a rectangle that is divided into 3 equal sections, each 3 " high by 8 1/2 " wide.

Step Three - cut out pattern

Plastic Cover, tin Snips and Sand Paper: Using your tin snips, cut around the perimeter of the 8 1/2 x 9 inch rectangle you just drew. Lightly sand the edges of the plastic pattern to smooth out any burs or slivers that might exist.

Step Four - cut indentations

Plastic Cover and tin Snips: Using your tin snips, cut out a small triangular notch where the lines you drew earlier meet the edge of the rectangle. The depth of these "fold guides" triangular notches to be cut out will be no more than 1/4 " and one will be cut at the ends on both lines. Four notches in all.

You should now have a sheet of plastic 8 1/2 inches wide by 9 inches high with two lines drawn across it. At the ends of those two lines there should be four small notches to allow for fold guides.

Step Six - Drawing the "legs"

Plastic Cover, Ruler and Marker: On one end of the rectangle and 3 3/4 " from the 9" side, draw a line 6 inches long. Do the same for the opposite side. One end of your rectangle now has two lines 6" long and 1" apart. Cap the open end of the two lines with a triangle which is 1/2" high.

Step Seven - Cutting the gap

Plastic Cover, tin snips: This "candle" looking portion of the pattern now needs to be cut out using your tin Snips. When removing the last portion of plastic from the triangle "cap" area, you may need to use the box cutters. Sand all cut edges.

Assemble Your Wallet

Now its time to put your template into action.
Rip 6 lengths of duct tape 10 inches long. With the sticky side up, overlap the strips no more than 1/2", laying them one atop the other to form a swatch of duct tape fabric. Rip 6 more pieces of tape and lay them sticky side to sticky side on the first strips of tape. Place your template over the tape and mark around it, being sure to include the notches. Using your box cutters, cut out the duct tape fabric. Fold the fabric like an accordion at the notches. You should now have two flaps hanging in front. These are the "legs" we cut out earlier. Using your knife, cut 3 strips of tape 1 " wide for edging. Two strips will be 3 inch long for side edging of the wallet and one 8 1/2 inch strip for along the bottom. Attach the edging and your wallet is complete!

Read over these directions a couple of times before tackling this simple project and I think you will agree that whatever time you invest in producing a template is well worth it.

Here are some great Cricut project ideas for making fantastic home made greeting cards. This project is for a wedding. It is perfect for giving to someone as a congratulations card for their wedding celebrations.

Below is a list of items you will need.

o Cardstock: white

o Patterned paper: pink, purple

o Buttons: pink love hearts

o Photographs of the bride and groom

o Pink ribbon

o Adhesive

Instructions:

1. Cut a nice thick square box. Using Graphically Speaking cartridge and purple patterned paper, press Shift and cut one 4" .

2. Cut the title block. Using the pink cardstock, cut one 4" . Repeat cut using the purple paper.

3. Cut notebook background. Using the pink patterned paper, press Shift and cut one 4" .

4. Stick the photographs of the bride and groom onto the card.

5. Stick to pink love hearts around the photograph of the bridge and groom.

6. Tie the pink ribbon into a bow and then attach the bow onto the card.

7. Add the text for example: "Congratulations Sarah and Richard on your wedding day from Jean and Paul and family! xxx"

This should take between thirty minutes and forty-five minutes depending how experienced you are with a Cricut machine. This Cricut project idea is actually based on the creative knowledge of beginners so this is not an expert Cricut project.

Home Decor - Shabby Chic Decorating Ideas for the Kitchen to Use Today!

Are you looking for shabby chic decorating ideas to use in your kitchen? Here are several easy and fun ideas that I have personally used to incorporate shabby chic decorating in that all-important room of the house--the kitchen.

Start by taking an inventory of keepsakes and newer knick knacks that you like and could be used as shabby chic home décor in the kitchen. Keepsakes that I used in my shabby chic kitchen were an old wooden recipe box, vintage measuring spoons, old tin cookie cutters, a miniature iron, an antique compact, a ceramic rose-design dish with lid and serving spoon, a vintage tea set and a couple of small photos in antique frames.

Decide where you will display your items. I used a tall, wrought iron corner shelf with four shelves to display the above items. On each shelf I draped a small lace doily that hung over the edge of the shelf. What I liked best about this collection was that it was tucked into a corner and out of the flow of traffic, and at the same time it was very attractive. It was a wonderful way to display keepsakes instead of having them packed away in a box.

Shabby chic home décor such as vintage bowls, trays and vases can be displayed on countertops and then brought to life by actually using them. Your family and guests will enjoy the uniqueness of their past and also their present beauty. For most family holiday dinners I bring out the family heirloom serving bowls and trays. What a great way to remember those good 'ole days!

Kitchen curtains are an excellent way to add that shabby chic look with a unique twist. In place of the traditional café curtains, use a valance scarf made out of beautiful shabby chic cotton. Instead of draping the valance scarf over a rod use a scroll-type hook, drape the scarf as usual over the hooks and then thread the scarf through each hook from the back to create a "puffy circular" look to each corner of the window. This is very attractive and unique plus holds the scarf in place. The sides of the scarf hang about half-way down the window for added interest.

A wrought iron chandelier with a distressed finish is a great shabby chic home decor addition over the dining table in the kitchen. It adds flair to the shabby chic décor without being too formal.

Remember, shabby chic decorating can be used in any room of the house. Let your imagination and ingenuity flow to create a beautiful and unique shabby chic look to your home.

The Basics of Tile Laying - Install Tile

If you have decided to install tile yourself rather than opting for hiring a professional, one thing you will save is money. The tiles are not terribly expensive, depending on the type you choose.

The labor is the costly part of hiring someone to do this job. So when you decide to do it yourself, by following a few simple instructions, you will save money and have the pride of a job well done.

The basic need for tile laying is a good sub-floor. Usually they are wood. The one thing you have to make sure of is that it is even and is a good surface for laying the tiles. If you already had a tile floor, it would be best to remove these tiles. This will help your new tile floor to last a lot longer.

You may have to purchase something to get rid of the glue from the old tiles that remains on the floor. It cannot be stressed enough if you want your floor to look professional and stay put, the sub-floor must be prepared for the new tile.

If the room you are tiling is the kitchen, remove the appliances. You will want your tile to be under the appliances in case you ever decide to move them or get a different size. It would look really odd to have bare spots where there is no tile.

Assuming you have already measured the floor, you should have the correct amount of tile for the room. It is always better to buy more than you need rather than less. Most stores will take unopened boxes of tiles back if you have extra and keep your receipt.

When you are ready to start to install tile, make sure you have all your tools together. You should have the following:

1) Work clothes that you are not worried about ruining.
2) Safety glasses
3) The adhesive and the grout for finishing
4) Tile spacers
5) Trowel and grout float
6) Tile cutter
7) Putty knife
8) Tape measure
9) Level
10) Square

If you do not have any of these tools, you may want to make a quick trip to your local hardware store. These tools are necessary to install tile floors.

The next step would be to find the center of your floor. Measure the width of the floor and using a piece of chalk mark the center spot. Measure the length of the floor and make a mark at the center. By marking the center of the floor correctly, you can start here to lay your tile making sure it is even and straight.

Put your first tile where you have marked the center of the room. Make sure you use the adhesive to bond it to the floor. Here is where your trowel comes in. Use it, hopefully you got one that is notched, to spread the adhesive. Press the tile in place and go to the next one. You can use a towel to wipe excess adhesive off your tiles.

Keep laying tiles until you have the floor covered, using the tile cutter if you need to trim any of it to fit. When you have this part finished and your tile has set, use your tile grout to put in the cracks between the tiles. Using your grout float make sure the gaps are completely filled. When this is dry you can brush off the excess. Now you are ready to enjoy your new floor.

CNC Stepper Motors

CNC stepper motors are designed to be used on mid-sized and small CNC mills and milling machines, lathes, engravers, cutters, plasma cutters, vinyl sign cutters, foam cutters and many more. Stepper motors are used in other things besides CNC machines, like robots. These motors offer advanced torque curves as well as low inductance. These motors, because of advanced torque curves and the low inductance that they offer, are the best choice for higher speed rapids and close lead screw pitches.

CNC stepper motors come in basically two different forms: the unipolar motor and the bipolar motor. The bipolar series of motors uses the full coil, which in turn gives great torque at low speeds; however, the higher the inductance quality that is offered with the CNC stepper motors, the more quickly torque drops off. Other bipolar motors are offered, for example, the bipolar parallel motors which also use the full coil.

Unipolar and bipolar half coil stepper motors do not give great torque at low speeds because fewer turns are being used; however, because of the low inductance quality that is offered with the CNC stepper motors, the torque is held out at higher speeds.

As with any other CNC motor, the motor quality, reliability and compatibility will all depend upon the brand that is purchased. Different manufacturers offer different set ups, different options and different configurations between their CNC machines and the CNC stepper motors that are designed to work with each other. You will be better off if you purchase a CNC stepper motor that is of the same brand and that will work with the CNC machine that you currently have or that you are looking at buying.

Different wire configurations for set up qualities are offered depending upon the manufacturer and the type of CNC stepper motor that you are looking at. Some offer 6 leads, while others offer less. There are diagrams that are available from the manufacturers that can help to explain the leads and the wire configurations better.

Optimal performance standards for these motors are good compared to the size of the machines that these stepper motors are designed to work with. When used in correlation with the proper size of CNC machine and the proper type of CNC machine, these stepper motors may be all that you need to achieve the desired effects with machines of this size.

Pre-wired plugs are available for the steppers that help to reduce the installation time by quite a bit. You may also have to purchase a driver box to work in conjunction with the stepper motor. The installation process with the pre-wired plugs can be as simple as plugging the right wire to the right axis and that is it.

If you have any questions about a CNC stepper motor, its capabilities and what exactly it is designed to work in correlation with, you can ask your dealer/supplier. They will be able to answer questions and to guide you in the right direction when it comes to picking out the right one for you.

Easy to Make Pearl Studded Unity Candle

After the wedding, most unity candles are placed on a shelf and never lit again, or carefully wrapped in tissue, tucked away and forgotten. Unity candles are expensive but luckily, they are also easy to make. The trick to making a great unity candle for just a fraction of the retail cost is to keep it simple. A candle with too much on it will end up looking like a third grade craft project.

Pearl studded candles add a touch of elegance to any event and require very little artistic talent to make. All you need to create a unity candle is a pillar candle at least ten inches tall, a pair of good wire cutters and a box of corsage or boutonniere pins. Pearl headed pins are available in various colors and sizes and usually sold by the box. An average box will hold 144 pins.

You can create any pattern but for those who are not crafty, it is best to stick with a simple design such as a diamond pattern. The diamond pattern is easy to make and has an elegant and timeless look.

Pillar candles come in so many different sizes it is hard to say exactly how many pins you will need. The best way to determine the number of pins needed is to measure the circumference, which is the distance around the candle and the height. A pillar candle that is three inches in diameter will have a circumference of ten and a half inches. Placing the pins ¾ of an inch apart, the first row will take fourteen pins and to create a diamond pattern the second row will take 13 pins. You will need approximately 122 pins to cover a candle 10 inches tall and 3 inches wide leaving one inch from the top and bottom and between rows.

To keep rows straight use a template. A template can be made by taking a piece of tape ten and a half inches long; using a felt pen put a dot every ¾ inch along the edge of the tape. Wrap the template around the candle just below where you want your first row to begin and insert the pins just above the dots on the edge of the template. Once the first row has been completed, remove the template and repeat the process with the second row placing the template so the dots are between the pins of the first row. Continue alternating pin placement with each row to create a diamond pattern.

Cut the pins up to ¼ an inch long. If soak the cut tins in hot water for a minute they will go into the wax with little effort. Do not try to insert a pin that is two-inches long into a candle, it will damage the candle and bend the pin.

Tapers, the candles used to light the unity candle can usually handle four small pins in the first row and three in the second row. Repeating the three four placement in the following rows will create a diamond pattern. A taper that is ¾ of an inch in diameter will measure 2 ¾ around. A standard 15 inch taper leaving 1 inch at the top and bottom will need 92 pins following the four - three pattern with one inch between rows. The number of pins used is up to you but if the spacing is too close will damage the integrity of the candle causing the wax to shatter or crack.

Unique unity candle designs are limited only by your imagination. Look around you and you will see a never-ending resource of supplies. Fingernail art including nail jewels, jewelry, and beading, upholstery nail head trim and even transparent decals that cling from an office supply store can be used to make a beautiful candle.
